Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – Northern Iowa used a late 9-0 run and outscored the Bradley men's basketball team, 27-15, over the final six minutes to earn an 86-71 victory at Carver Arena on Saturday night. The Braves are now 13-6 in 2019-20 with a 4-2 Missouri Valley Conference record, while the Panthers improve to 16-2 overall and 5-1 versus league foes.

Junior Danya Kingsby led all players with a game-high 28 points – more than doubling his previous career high. The junior sunk 11-of-17 field goals and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, while also adding a personal-best five assists against the Panthers.

Senior Darrell Brown added 18 points and four assists for the Braves, while classmate Koch Bar collected a game-high eight boards.

Kingsby led the Braves right from the start, scoring the team's first 11 points of the game en route to an early four-point edge, 11-7. However, Northern Iowa responded with a 19-4 run to grab the advantage, 26-15. Bradley would answer with seven-straight points and neither team would lead by more than five for the rest of the opening half. Bradley eventually pulled even at 36 thanks to Brown's first 3-pointer of the contest before two late free throws gave the visitors a 38-36 edge at the break.

The second half was tightly contested throughout but Bradley could never quite fully grab the momentum. During the first 15 minutes of the period, the Braves pulled within a single possession seven different times. However, the Panthers responded by making 6-of-7 field goals on the ensuing possessions and never let Bradley pull even.

The Braves were within two, 59-57, after Kingsby completed an and-one with 7:25 remaining. The Panthers sunk a 3-pointer on the next possession before Ari Boya answered with a layup for a 62-59 contest.

Bradley finally got the defensive stop it needed on the next possession only for an empty trip on the missed front end of a 1-and-1 with 5:58 left. Northern Iowa then tallied off nine-straight points for a 71-59 advantage as BU was never closer than eight points the remainder of the game.

The Panthers made 50.8 percent of their field goals in the winning effort, while Bradley converted 46.4 percent of its chances

Bradley looks to return to its winning ways on Wednesday, hosting Illinois State at 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Kingsby's previous career high was 13 points against IUPUI on Nov. 9, while he had four assists versus Maryville on Dec. 10 … With his 18 points, Brown moved up 11th in school history with 1,634 career points – passing Andrew Warren (1,621 points from 2006 to 2011) … The loss ended Bradley's 14-game home winning streak … Northern Iowa swept the regular-season series with the Braves for the first time since 2015-16 and now owns a 34-32 edge in the all-time series.
