Danya Kingsby Named MVC Newcomer Of The Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Junior Danya Kingsby of the Bradley men's basketball team was honored as the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, announced by the league on Monday.

Kingsby recorded a pair of breakout performances last week — averaging 20.0 points and 4.0 assists, while shooting 66.7 percent from the field (16-24) and 62.5 percent from 3-point range (5-8).

The junior entered the week with his career high in points for a game at 13 and nearly topped that in Wednesday's road victory at Missouri State, tallying 12 points to go with three assists. Kingsby then more doubled his previous high with 28 points against Northern Iowa to go with a career-best five assists. He scored Bradley's first 11 points of the contest and never slowed down as he surpassed his previous high with seven minutes remaining in the first half. He finished the game shooting 11-of-17 from the field with a 3-of-5 mark from 3-point range.

Overall, Kingsby is averaging 8.4 points and 2.2 assists during his first season in the Bradley Red & White.

Kingsby is the first Brave to earn Valley Newcomer of the Week honors since current senior Darrell Brown collected the accolade Nov. 28, 2016.

Kingsby and the Braves are back in action Wednesday night, hosting I-74 rival Illinois State at Carver Arena for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
