PEORIA, IL – A pair of Bradley players moved into two different program career top 10 lists, leading the Braves (1-0) to a season-opening, 5-2 win against IUPUI Friday afternoon at the Clubs at River City.
Senior
Natalia Barbery teamed with junior
Sandra Maletin for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles in the first match of the day to finish. With the win, Barbery moved into a 10th-place tie in program history with her 45th career doubles victory.
Bradley clinched the day's first point when the No. 2 doubles team of sophomores
Bozana Lojpur and
Nikki Perlwitz snared a 6-3 win.
While IUPUI pulled into a 1-1 tie due to a walkover win at No. 3 singles due to a Barbery injury, Maletin put the Braves back in control by cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. With her victory, Maletin moved into a tie for 10th in Bradley history with her 46th career singles victory.
Perlwitz made it 3-1 Bradley by rolling to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles and junior
Nina Marjanovic clinched the team victory by grinding out a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. Freshman
Victoria Sánchez Bronzetti rebounded from a 6-1 first-set loss for a 3-set win by taking the next two frames, 6-1 and 6-2, securing her first career dual match victory and setting Bradley's final score.
Both teams will return to the Clubs at River City Saturday for dual matches against Murray State: IUPUI at 9 a.m. and the Braves against the Racers at 1 o'clock. Admission is free for all Bradley Tennis regular-season home matches.
