Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Terre Haute, Ind. – With only seven student-athletes and six scholarship players available on Saturday, the Bradley men's basketball team dropped a 61-53 decision at Indiana State. The Braves are now 14-7 on the season and 5-3 in Missouri Valley Conference action, while the Sycamores improve to 11-8 and 4-4 in league play.

Sophomore Ari Boya led Bradley with career-high totals of 14 points and 12 rebounds – recording his first collegiate double-double. Junior Danya Kingsby added 12 points and a game-high six assists with senior Nate Kennell and sophomore Ja'Shon Henry also scoring in double figures with 10 points apiece.

The Sycamores started the game strong, scoring the game's first 12 points and 15 of the first 17 before eventually leading by 14, 21-7, eight minutes into the contest.

The Braves, however, fought back and used a 26-9 run to finish the first period and head into the intermission with the lead. Bradley made 12 of its final 16 shots in the half (75.0 percent), while limiting the Sycamores to just 4-of-17 shooting during the run (23.5 percent). Boya scored 12 points during the Bradley surge – four more points than his previous career-best total – as Bradley headed into the locker room in front, 33-30.

The second half was closely contested throughout as Bradley maintained its slight advantage for the first 12 minutes of the period. The Braves led by five, 46-41, before a 7-0 Indiana State run put the hosts ahead by two, 48-46, with 6:33 remaining. Boya squared the contest at 48 before an Indiana State bucket and two free throws by Kingsby resulted in a 50-50 game with 3:06 left.

However, Indiana State scored on its next possession and Bradley did not make a field goal until the closing seconds as the Sycamores earned the 61-53 victory.

Bradley shot 46.7 percent in the contest with a 6-of-13 mark from 3-point range. The Braves also held the Sycamores to 36.5 percent shooting but Indiana State won the battle from the free-throw line, 17-5, and on the glass, 34-30, with an eight-point edge in second-chance points (14-6).

The Braves are back in action Wednesday night, hosting Valparaiso at Carver Arena. Game time is set for 6 p.m.

Game Notes: Boya is the sixth different Brave to post a double-double this season … Boya's previous career highs were eight points against Georgia Southern on Dec. 18, 2018 and seven rebounds, accomplished twice … Kingsby has scored in double figures in four-straight games after doing so twice in his first 16 collegiate games … Bradley has lost all four games when it is outrebounded this season … Bradley's Ville Tahvanainen missed the contest with a repository illness, while Bradley's top two scorers, Darrell Brown (missed second-straight game) and Elijah Childs (missed nine of last 10) were also out with injuries.
