Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Cincinnati, Ohio – The Bradley men's basketball team never trailed en route to a 74-60 victory against Oakland on Friday afternoon in the Xavier Invitational. The Braves finished second to the host Musketeers at the tournament and now own a 2-1 record during the 2020-21 campaign.

Senior Elijah Childs led the Braves with his first double-double of the season. The forward collected team highs with 16 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three blocks. His six helpers also set a new career high.

Childs earned All-Tournament Team honors along with junior Terry Nolan Jr. for BU. Childs averaged 15.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks during the three-game tournament, while Nolan added 8.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while making the game-winning field goal with 0.8 seconds left in Wednesday's win against Toledo.

Freshman Darius Hannah added 12 points in Friday's victory to go with eight rebounds, while sophomore Sean East II chipped in 10 points and four assists.

The Braves grabbed control of the contest midway through the first half. After Oakland tied the game at 12, Bradley rallied off eight-straight points to ignite a 29-11 run and put BU firmly in control with an 18-point lead, 41-23. Junior Kevin McAdoo led BU with eight points during the stretch as Bradley made 11-of-18 field goals during the surge. The Braves then headed into the locker room with a 43-28 advantage.

The Grizzlies never seriously would threaten in the second half as the BU lead remained in double digits the entire period. The Braves would lead by as many as 20 points before securing the 14-point victory with the highlight of the half coming from Hannah. The rookie sent a thunderous dunk into the basket over an Oakland player in the lane as he capped off his first double-digit scoring day.

The Braves finished the game by shooting 51.8 percent – their best shooting day so far in the young season. Bradley also made 10-of-21 from 3-point range, while holding the Grizzlies to just 29.0 percent shooting for the day.

Bradley is now set to return to Peoria for its home opener on Tuesday. The Braves host Judson on Tuesday night at Carver Arena with tipoff set for 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Childs has made the All-Tournament Team in each of his last five multi-game tournaments (2018 Cancun Challenge, 2019 MVC Tournament, 2020 Fort Myers Tip-Off and 2020 MVC Tournament) … With his 10 rebounds, Childs moved into the top 10 in school history in career rebounds with 690 for his career. He surpassed Donald Reese (687 – 1979-82) and Voise Winters (686 – 1981-85) on Friday … Childs also set his new career high in assists, surpassing his previous high of five on March 9, 2019 … Hannah had played four total minutes in Bradley's first two games of the season before Friday's 12-point output in 19 minutes … The Braves have not allowed a team to score more than 60 points this season … Bradley now leads the series with Oakland, 3-0.
