Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Columbia, Mo. – The Bradley men's basketball team fought with nationally-ranked Missouri for 40 minutes but it was a final-second three-point play by the No 14 Tigers that lifted the hosts to a 54-53 victory on Tuesday night. The Braves are now 6-3 on the year, while Missouri improves to 6-0.

Senior Elijah Childs led the Braves with his second double-double of the season, scoring a team-leading 13 points to go with 10 rebounds and three blocks. Freshman Jayson Kent also added a career-best 11 points in 15 minutes of action off the bench.

The teams battled during a defensive first half as neither team allowed its opponent to get going offensively. Missouri led by as many as seven points on three occasions but Bradley finished the period on a strong note and pulled to within two, 21-19, at the break.

The Braves carried their momentum over into the second half – tallying the first six points to quickly move in front, 25-21. Missouri scored the next five points to set up a back-and forth contest where neither team led by more than a single possession over the next eight minutes.

Bradley was able to grab some breathing room thanks to a 12-5 run that put the visitors in front by eight points, 50-42, with just 3:44 remaining in the game. However, Missouri slowly chipped away at the Bradley lead and after a pair of made free throws with 51 seconds left, the Tigers pulled to within two, 53-51. Missouri then forced a miss before Bradley responded with a defensive stop. However, a missed front end of a 1-and-1 with 10.0 seconds remaining gave the Tigers one final chance and they converted with an and-one layup with 1.0 second remaining. Missouri then secured the last-second victory with the converted free throw for the 54-53 win.

Bradley shot 36.5 percent on the night and held a 48-43 edge on the glass. The Braves also held the Tigers to just 25.4 percent shooting but a 26-10 advantage in free throw attempts proved to be too much for BU on the night.

The Braves are off until Sunday, Jan. 3, beginning a two-game series with Loyola.

Game Notes: Junior starting guard Terry Nolan Jr. missed the game for Bradley due to a non-athletic related procedure during the past week … Kent entered the game with 11 points in 12 minutes of action during BU's first eight games of the season … Bradley held Missouri to just 54 points – 15 points fewer than their previous season low … The Braves' three losses this season have come by six combined points, including two one-point losses to nationally-ranked teams …  Bradley was attempting to win its first non-conference road game against a top-15 team since 1956 … Missouri improved to 3-0 against the Braves.
