Women's Basketball 12/5/2020 11:00:00 AM

PEORIA, Ill. – After a 66-61 road win at Wright State Wednesday, Bradley Women's Basketball will face another road test when the Braves visit Saint Louis Sunday afternoon.  Bradley will tip things off against the Billikens at 2 p.m. at Chaifetz Arena.

Seniors Gabi Haack and Nyjah White tied for game-high honors with 16 points each, while Lasha Petree (12 points) and Mahri Petree (10 points) both joined the duo in double figures in Wednesday's win at Wright State to open the two-game road swing.

Bradley (2-1 overall) will be playing Saint Louis (1-0 overall) for the first time since 2016-17 and Sunday's outing will mark just the third meeting between the squads in the last 10 years.  The Billikens, which were picked third in the A10 preseason poll, opened their season Friday with an 82-74 overtime home victory over Memphis.

Sunday's game will be available on ESPN+ and BradleyBraves.com will provide links to the WIRL 1290 AM radio broadcast along with live stats.

Bradley holds an 8-5 advantage in the all-time series with Saint Louis, but the Billikens have won the last two matchups with the Braves.  Sunday's outing marks the first meeting between the two schools since a 68-56 Saint Louis victory in Peoria during the 2016-17 season.  Bradley is 4-3 in road games in the series, winning two of the last three games played in St. Louis, Mo.

Bradley is 13-8 against current members of the Atlantic 10 after picking up neutral site wins against George Mason and Richmond at last year's Coastal Carolina Classic.  Five of Bradley's last seven games against A10 opponents have been against Saint Louis.  Of the current Atlantic 10 members, Dayton is the only other A10 opponent besides the Billikens that Bradley has played on the road with the last road matchup against the Flyers in 1992-93.

Bradley is 2-1 or better to start a season for the fourth consecutive year following Wednesday's road win at Wright State.  The Braves have opened each of the last three seasons with at least a 3-1 mark or better.  Last year, Bradley split its first two games (both road contests), before going on a seven-game win streak.  Wednesday's win at Wright State helped the Braves avoid dropping back-to-back non-conference games for the first time since December 2017.  Bradley is now 22-4 in non-conference contests dating back to consecutive losses to Green Bay and Cleveland State in 2017.

Bradley owns a 6-2 record in non-conference road games since the start of the 2018-19 season with both losses at Big Ten Conference foes (Michigan & Purdue).  In fact, the Braves are 10-3 over that same stretch in non-conference games played away from home (road or neutral).  Eleven of Bradley's last 16 true road wins have been in states other than Illinois.  Overall, the Braves are 11-6 in all road or neutral site games since the start of last year and own a 15-10 mark in games played outside Illinois (includes neutral sites) over the past two-plus seasons.

Bradley has been getting to the free throw line early in 2020-21, averaging a Missouri Valley Conference best 24.0 free throw attempts.  Among the teams that have played at least three games through Dec. 3, the Braves are 14th nationally in free throw attempts per game.  Five of the other 13 squads in that group are either ranked or receiving votes in the latest AP Top 25 in addition to an early season opponent for BU (Milwaukee).  Bradley is shooting 76.4 percent from the line on the young season after shooting 72.3 percent last year and has made 18.3 free throws per game, accounting for 26.3 percent of the team's scoring (28th nationally).  Last year the Braves received 19.8 percent of its scoring from the charity stripe.

Lasha Petree recently passed Bradley Video Coordinator/Assistant Director of Operations Leti Lerma (905 points) on Bradley's all-time scoring list and is closing in on head coach Andrea Gorski.  Now 24th in Bradley history with 932 career points, Petree needs 30 points to pass Kelsey Budd for 23rd and is just 49 points from overtaking Gorski (980) for 21st.  Petree has had her fair share of success against non-conference opponents, boasting a career 16.6 ppg average against non-MVC teams.  In fact, Petree has averaged 19.3 points per game over the last seven non-conference contests.

Not to be outdone, Haack is now the active career scoring leader in the Missouri Valley Conference after her 16-point effort in Wednesday's win at Wright State pushed her career total over the 1,200-point mark.  Haack, who is scoring 16.3 points per game, passed Makenzie Silvey of Southern Illinois to take over as the MVC's active scoring leader earlier this week and enters Sunday's game with 1,210 career points.

Bradley follows up Sunday's game at Saint Louis with a two-game home stand which starts Sunday, Dec. 13 against Northern Illinois (2 p.m.).
