Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Chicago – The Bradley men's basketball team suffered a 62-51 setback on Saturday night at Loyola. The Braves are now 15-8 with a 6-4 Missouri Valley Conference record, while the Ramblers move to 15-8 and 7-3 in league play.

Three Braves scored eight points to lead BU in scoring – senior Darrell Brown, junior Danya Kingsby and freshman Sean Houpt. Senior Nate Kennell added a game-high seven assists, while rookie Ville Tahvanainen matched his career high with seven rebounds.

Loyola took the early advantage in the game, using a 7-0 run with the score knotted at nine to take a 16-9 lead. The Ramblers' advantage reached as many as eight points, 23-15, before Houpt gave Bradley a late spark off the bench. The freshman walk-on scored BU's last eight points of the period, including a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to send Bradley into the intermission down by just one, 31-30.

The momentum, however, did not carry over to the second half for the Braves. Loyola scored the first eight points of the half before a triple by Brown ended the Bradley drought with 13:50 remaining. The Braves pulled as close as four points, 43-39, following another 3-pointer from the senior guard with 10:57 left in the game only for Loyola to answer with a 13-3 run and a 56-42 lead with under five minutes remaining. The Braves would only be as close as seven points the remainder of the game before the Ramblers secured the 62-51 victory.

Bradley shot 42.2 percent, while holding Loyola to 40.9 percent shooting. However, the Ramblers made 21 free throws to five for the BU, while also winning the battle on the glass, 34-23, second-chance points, 16-5, and points off turnovers, 24-15.

The Braves are back in action Wednesday night at Drake with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m.

Game Notes: Houpt entered the game with five total points in his first 10 career games … The team that has won the rebounding battle in all 10 of Bradley's MVC games has emerged victorious … No Brave scored in double figures for the first time since Dec. 21, 2016 against TCU.
