Game Recap: Softball |
LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. – Mountain West Conference preseason favorite San Jose State held Bradley Softball to just three hits and the Spartans used a four-run first to open the scoring in an eventual 11-0 victory over the Braves Friday afternoon at the Golden State Classic.

San Jose State (3-2 overall) struck early, plating four runs in the first.  A walk and double led to the first run, while Alyssa Graham had the big hit of the inning with a three-run homer to give the Spartans a 4-0 advantage.

Bradley (3-4 overall) had its first hit of the contest with Allison Apke leading off the top of the second with a single.  The Braves were unable to get anything going in the inning, however.

Senior Emma Jackson retired San Jose State in order in the bottom of the second, but Bradley came up empty again in the top of the third despite getting a leadoff walk from senior Vicki Zaluske

Jackson was able to work around a leadoff single in the top of the third for another scoreless frame.

Senior Kealia Wysocki opened the Bradley half of the fourth with a single, only to have San Jose State turn a double play on a line drive to keep the Braves off the scoreboard.

San Jose State broke the game open with a seven-run fourth.  A walk, single and hit batter loaded the bases with no outs with the Spartans scoring the first run of the inning on a passed ball.  A two-run double by Mackenzie Drake pushed the San Jose State lead to 7-0 and she came around to score on a double by Rayohna Sagapolu.  A sacrifice fly by Janessa Lozano plated another run and Graham drove in two more with a single to left to give the Spartans an 11-0 edge.

Shannon Haddad retired Bradley in order in the top of the fifth to close out the San Jose State win as she improved to 2-1 on the year.

Bradley continues play at the Golden State Classic Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. (CST) game against Army.
