Keaton Rice reached safely four times Sunday to highlight Bradley's 13-hit attack

SAN ANTONIO – Junior C Keaton Rice was 3-for-3 with a walk and senior SS Luke Shadid also banged out three hits, but their offensive efforts were not enough as Incarnate Word (3-0) completed a season-opening series sweep with a 19-9 win against Bradley (0-3) Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field.

The Cardinals outslugged the Braves, 15-13, in the hits column and took advantage of a wild pitching performance by the visitors: eight walks, four hit batters and four wild pitches. UIW 1B Ryan Flores and SS Grant Smith both homered and drove in five runs apiece, while RF Drew Minter also homered and drove in four.

Bradley 1B Connor O'Brien hit his second home run in as many days, while freshman Carson Husmann launched a pinch-hit, 2-run home run in the seventh inning for his first career dinger.

The wide scoring margin allowed the Braves to empty their bench as 23 Bradley players appeared in the game, including six who made their Bradley debuts.

The Braves will look to recover next week by playing four games against four different opponents in the Nashville area as part of the SAF Dirt Classic, beginning with a Thursday afternoon visit to Middle Tennessee. Bradley also will visit Lipscomb Friday, Austin Peay Saturday and Belmont Sunday.
