Baseball Rally Comes Up Short at Lipscomb

Dan Bolt hit a 3-run home run as Bradley tried to rally from a 9-1 deficit Friday

NASHVILLE, TN – Senior LF Dan Bolt was 3-for-5 with a 3-run home run and freshman RHP Taylor Catton turned in 5.0 solid innings of relief, but it was not enough to prevent Lipscomb (5-0) from holding on to a 10-7 win against visiting Bradley (0-5) during second-day action in the SAF Dirt Classic Friday afternoon at Dugan Field.
 
The Bisons built a 9-1 lead through 3+ innings against Bradley starter Brooks Gosswein, capped by four runs in the fourth before the Braves could record an out.  Catton relieved after a 2-run home run by Malik Williams in the fourth and held Lipscomb to one run on four hits the rest of the way.
 
Bradley tried to dig out of the hole, getting a 2-run double from Connor O'Brien in the fifth and Bolt's 3-run homer in the sixth to pull within 9-6.  After Lipscomb got one run back in the bottom of the sixth, Bradley's best opportunity to complete the rally came in the eighth when they loaded the bases with no outs.  A run-scoring double play allowed the Braves to pull within three, 10-7, but doused the momentum.
 
A day after being held to one hit in the opening day of the SAF Dirt Classic in a 5-0 loss at Middle Tennessee, Bradley banged out 12 hits Friday.  In addition to Bolt's big day at the plate, Keaton Rice was 2-for-5 with a double, while SS Luke Shadid reached base safely three times by going 1-for-3 with two walks.
 
Bradley will continue the SAF Dirt Classic by visiting Austin Peay in a 1 p.m. game Saturday in Clarksville, TN at Raymond C. Hand Park.
