Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Valparaiso, Ind. – The Bradley men's basketball team couldn't overcome hot-shooting Valparaiso on the road as the Crusaders earned a 90-78 victory on Saturday night. The Braves are now 19-10 on the year with a 10-6 Missouri Valley Conference record, while Valpo moves to 15-14 and 8-8 versus league foes.

Valparaiso made 18-of-28 from 3-point range in the winning effort, including 11-of-15 from beyond the arc in the second half.

Junior Elijah Childs led Bradley with 19 points and seven rebounds. Senior Nate Kennell added 16 points, while classmate Darrell Brown also chipped in 14.

Bradley started the game as the hot team, making six of its first eight field goals to quickly race to a 14-4 lead. Brown scored seven points in the opening minutes as BU gained the early advantage. The Bradley lead reached as many as 13 at 29-16 with 7:43 remaining after Kennell buried a triple of his own following a steal. Valparaiso would start its comeback, however, by closing to within six at the half, 42-36.

The Crusaders then started making their shots from deep in the second half and seemingly, couldn't miss. Valpo made five 3-pointers in the first five minutes of the period to erase its deficit and pull even at 53. After Brown made a layup, the Crusaders then used a 13-2 run – anchored by another two triples – to pull in front of BU, 66-57. Bradley would pull as close as seven, 78-71, with 4:05 remaining but again, the Crusaders made another two triples down the stretch to secure the victory.

Overall, Valparaiso made nine of their first 10 attempts from beyond the arc in the second half en route to the win.

Bradley looks to return to its winning ways on Wednesday night, playing at I-74 rival Illinois State. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Game Notes: The 18 triples are the most ever in a Missouri Valley Conference game and the most allowed by Bradley in school history … Bradley committed only three turnovers in the contest, its second-fewest in a game during the shot clock era. It is the fewest since a school-record two against Wichita State on Feb. 4, 1989 … The home team has won all nine games in the series.
