Megan Welch Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore women's golfer Megan Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after pacing Bradley Women's Golf to a ninth-place finish at the Rio Verde Invitational in the spring opener for the Braves.

Welch posted the first top-10 finish of her career, tying for ninth in the individual standings at the Rio Verde Invite. After an opening round 79 Friday, she matched the low round of her career with a pair of 72's Sunday to finish at seven-over 223 for the tournament. Welch, who was three shots out of the top five, was even on the par 3's for the tournament and her nine birdies tied for the third most in the tournament. A mathematics education major, Welch owns a 3.55 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Welch and Bradley Women's Golf return to action March 9 & 10 at the River Landing Classic in Wilmington, N.C.
