The 2020 Kaboom! Awards, presented by RE/MAX Traders Unlimited and supported by PNC, continues with highlights from the 2019 Bradley Soccer season and the announcement of a pair of team awards:  the Danny Dahlquist Memorial Award to senior defender John Pollifrone and team Most Valuable Player to junior forward Gerit Wintermeyer.

Bradley Soccer posted an 8-7-4 overall record in 2019 and finished third in the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season standings before advancing to the semifinals of the MVC Men's Soccer Championship at Loyola Chicago, where head coach Jim DeRose earned his 250th career victory in the first-round triumph against Evansville.  For the first time since 2013, the Braves landed three student-athletes on the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region team – Wintermeyer and senior defender Walid Kherat on the second team and Pollifrone on the third team.

Led by Kherat and Pollifrone, the 2019 Braves allowed just 79 shots on goal in 19 games, an average of just 4.2 shots on target per game, as Bradley posted a 1.10 goals against average.  In the 10 regular-season conference games, Bradley allowed nine goals on just 38 shots on goal.

Pollifrone also was one of six Braves named to the All-MVC squad and joined senior goalkeeper Nathan Wisbey on the MVC Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete first team.  Wintermeyer and Kherat both were selected for the All-MVC first team, while Pollifrone and Wisbey were second-team selections by the league's head coaches.  Senior midfielder Jha'Lon Johnson received honorable mention and forward Danny Collins was named to the MVC All-Freshman Team.

Bradley's leading scorer with nine goals and 19 points, Wintermeyer was named the College Soccer News National Player of the Week Nov. 11 after netting the game-winning goals in the 90th minute Nov. 4 at Western Illinois and the 82nd minute Nov. 9 against Evansville.

The 2020 Kaboom! Awards are celebrating the 2019-20 year in Bradley Athletics by transitioning from the annual red-carpet event to a virtual presentation throughout the May. Each year on the final night of spring semester classes, the Bradley Department of Athletics gathers at Renaissance Coliseum for the annual Kaboom! Awards, an event modeled after the popular awards shows in the entertainment industry (Oscars, Grammys, ESPYs) and recognizes all of the graduating seniors, spotlights the team and individual achievements from throughout the year. Traditionally preceded by a red-carpet reception, the awards show is filled with video and graphic tributes, which will be presented this year through the Bradley Athletics website, BradleyBraves.com, and the department's social media accounts -- culminating with the announcement of the 67th Charles Orsborn Award May 29 and viewing of the Moments of the Year May 30.

The 2020 Kaboom! Awards continue Tuesdayt with the reveal of the second finalist for the prestigious Charles Orsborn Award.
