AUSTIN, TX – Bradley senior shortstop Luke Shadid (Peoria, IL/Notre Dame H.S.) is the fifth student-athlete in program history named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America, earning third-team recognition, according to an announcement from CoSIDA Thursday morning.

Shadid is one of 33 student-athletes from across the nation, and one of just two Missouri Valley Conference representatives, selected to the 2020 CoSIDA Division I Baseball Academic All-America Team.  He joins Brad Canada (2004 and 2005), Eitan Barbalat (2007 and 2008), Grant Escue (2009) and Drew Carlile (2015) as the fifth Bradley Baseball student-athlete to be receive CoSIDA Academic All-America recognition.

The 2020 recipient of the Bradley University Charles Orsborn Award, Shadid also was this year's MVC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  He earned his bachelor's degree in finance in just three years and earned his master's degree in business administration during his fourth year at Bradley in 2019-20.  The 2020 squad's active career leader in numerous offensive categories, Shadid was on pace to challenge Bradley's career record for base hits before the season was halted after just 10 games.

A four-year starter at shortstop, Shadid has started all 151 of the games he has played for the Braves, batting .316 with 123 runs scored, 100 RBIs, 29 doubles and 17 home runs.  Despite being unable to complete the 2020 campaign, Shadid is tied for ninth in program history with nine career triples and seventh with 30 career hit-by-pitches.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.0, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his institution and be nominated by his sports information director.
