JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Sophomore forward Jim Derengowski scored a pair of first-half goals and classmate Pete Wagner made eight saves, leading Bradley Soccer to the first win during the program's inaugural season, a 2-1 victory at Illinois College Tuesday evening.

The Braves (1-4-0) got off to a fast start when Derengowski took a feed from sophomore Dan Reilly and beat the Blueboys keeper for a 1-0 lead just 6:27 into the match.  Derengowski completed the brace later in the half, scoring unassisted at 24:38 for a 2-0 Bradley win.  Although Illinois College cut its deficit in half when Ron Logan scored just before halftime, Wagner remained big between the pipes throughout the second half to make Derengowski's two goals stand up.

Introduced as a club program in 1968, the Bradley Soccer program was elevated to NCAA Division I status for the 1987 season and has kicked off its inaugural season with a roster comprised of six freshmen, 10 sophomores, three juniors and one senior.  The Braves will continue their 2-game road swing Friday at Lindenwood, then will return to its home field at Bergan (now Peoria Notre Dame) High School Sunday to host Big Ten Conference foe Wisconsin.
