Rienk Mast Named Valley Newcomer of the Week

Redshirt freshman Rienk Mast of the Bradley men's basketball team excelled in the first two starts of his collegiate career and was rewarded with Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honors, announced on Tuesday.

Filling in in the starting lineup for an injured Bradley player, Mast averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in a pair of games at Northern Iowa on Sunday and Monday. The rookie shot 50.0 percent from the field with a 55.6 percent mark from 3-point range (6-of-11).

Entering the series, Mast had only one double-digit scoring performance to his name in nine non-conference games. He eclipsed that mark in the two Bradley contests this weekend as he totaled a career-best 14 points on Sunday before adding 13 points in Monday's win, including nine points during a key 19-7 stretch that turned a four-point deficit into an eight-point lead late in the game. He made 4-of-7 field goals in the winning effort, including a 3-of-5 mark from beyond the arc.

After missing his first season on campus with an injury, Mast has appeared in 11 games during the 2020-21 campaign, averaging 5.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in just over 16 minutes of action.

Mast and the Braves are back in action this weekend, hosting Evansville for a two-game series. The schools are set to open play at Carver Arena on Saturday at 3 p.m.
