Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley men's basketball team cruised its largest Missouri Valley Conference victory in 21 years, posting an 86-55 win against Evansville on Sunday afternoon at Carver Arena. The Braves earned their third-straight victory and improved to 9-4 overall and 3-1 versus league foes, while the Purple Aces are now 6-8 and 4-4 in Valley play.

Four Braves scored in double figures in the 31-point victory, led by 16 points from junior Ja'Shon Henry. Classmate Terry Nolan Jr. added 13 points with sophomore Ville Tahvanainen chipping in 12 points off of four made 3-pointers and senior Elijah Childs tallying 10.

Childs also led Bradley with six rebounds in the victory, while sophomore Sean East II collected a game-high four assists and three steals.

The Braves won the opening tip and Childs scored a jumper on the first possession as BU never looked back and led wire-to-wire. Bradley quickly raced to a 15-3 lead at the first media timeout to take control of the contest as Evansville was only within single digits for 34 seconds the remainder of the game. Tahvanainen and Nolan sunk back-to-back 3-pointers for the early lead and then Tahvanainen ignited a highlight play by forcing an Evansville turnover, diving on a loose ball and finding Henry for a transition layup and an and-one.

The early spark led to Bradley heading into the locker room with a 49-21 lead. The Braves shot 56.7 percent in the opening 20 minutes of action, including a 7-of-11 mark from 3-point range (63.6 percent), while holding the Aces to just 26.1 percent shooting.

Evansville never threatened in the second stanza as the Braves led by at least 21 points the entire half en route the 31-point win, 86-55.

Overall, Bradley finished the contest by shooting 49.1 percent, including a 10-of-20 clip from beyond the arc.

The Braves look to carry over their momentum with a trio of rivalry games this week. Bradley begins the week by playing at I-74 rival Illinois State on Wednesday night with tipoff slated for 8 p.m. at Redbird Arena.

Game Notes: Bradley's 31-point win was its largest in Valley action since defeating Northern Iowa by 41 points, 80-39, on Feb. 5, 2000 … The 31-point victory was also the most by the Braves over Evansville since a 33-point win, 98-65, on Jan. 23, 1999 … Bradley has now won seven-straight games over the Aces – matching the longest winning streak by either team in the series (Bradley twice won seven-straight contests from 1987 to 1997 and again from 2006 to 2009) … The Braves held a 14-0 advantage in fastbreak points in the victory … Bradley outscored Evansville in the paint, 70-28, during the weekend sweep … The Braves are 10-2 when playing one day after another game during the last four seasons … Bradley is 6-1 this season when Tahvanainen scores in double figures (3-3 when he is held to less than 10 points).
