Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Terre Haute, Ind. – The Bradley men's basketball team dropped a tight decision to host Indiana State on Sunday afternoon, 60-57. The Braves are now 9-9 on the season with a 3-6 Missouri Valley Conference record, while the Sycamores improve to 9-7 and 6-5 in conference play.

Sophomore Ville Tahvanainen led the Braves with 17 points on the day – making 7-of-11 field goals and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Junior Ja'Shon Henry added 14 points, while redshirt freshman Rienk Mast just missed his first collegiate double-double with 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

The Braves held the slight edge for most of the first 10 minutes of the contest. However, an Indiana State run put the hosts in front at the intermission. Trailing by five points, 17-12, the Sycamores used a 15-3 stretch to pull in front by seven, 27-20. Indiana State made 7-of-13 field goals during the run, while holding BU to 1-of-10 from the field. The run proved pivotal in the Sycamores earning a 34-29 lead at the break.

In the second stanza, Indiana State pushed its lead to 10 points before the Braves made their move. Trailing 45-35, the Braves used an 8-1 run to pull within a single possession, 46-43. Defense keyed the stretch as once Indiana State held a double-digit lead, the Braves did not allow a field goal for more than eight minutes, forcing eight-straight misses by the Sycamores.

Bradley continued to fight and baskets on three-straight possessions – two by Mast and one by Henry – put the Braves in front for the first time in the second half, 57-56, with 2:37 remaining in the contest. Indiana State, however, answered with a free throw on its next possession to square the game and then moved ahead with just over a minute left, 59-57. Bradley had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds but two shots on its final possession would not go down as the Sycamores added a free throw for the final 60-57 score.

The Braves shot 45.3 percent on the day, while the Sycamores converted 39.2 percent of their attempts.

The schools continue the two-game series tomorrow afternoon with a 4 p.m. CT tipoff.

Game Notes: Senior Elijah Childs was held under 10 points for the first time this season – he was the last player remaining in the Missouri Valley Conference to score in double figures in every game this season … The Braves have held opponents to under 40 percent shooting in 12-of-18 games this season … During Bradley's five-game losing streak, opponents are shooting 81-of-121 from the free-throw line, while Bradley is 33-of-57 … Bradley's seven free-throw attempts on Sunday were its second-fewest of the season.
