Game Recap: Volleyball |
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Bradley Volleyball moved into third in the Missouri Valley Conference standings, opening a two-match conference road swing with a 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25, 16-14 victory at Missouri State Friday.

Karagan Coggin finished a kill short of matching career high, as the junior finished with 17 kills and attacked at a .371 clip.  Senior Hannah Thompson matched Coggin for team-high honors with 17 kills and also collected 13 digs for her 15th double-double of the season.  Fellow senior Kora Kauling once again flirted with a triple-double with the setter finishing with seven kills, 32 assists and 10 digs to help lead the Braves

Junior Carlee Camlin also added a double-double, matching a career-best 14 digs to go with 26 assists and was one of four Braves to post double-doubles along with freshman Silan Demirkol (12 kills & 10 digs).

The victory moved Bradley (12-11 overall, 8-4 MVC) into sole possession of third in the MVC standings and gave the Braves a sweep of the regular-season series with Missouri State (14-9 overall, 5-6 MVC) for the first time since 2018.

Playing its fourth fifth-set match in the last five outings, Bradley had 10 kills on 25 attacks with no errors in the fifth set as the Braves hit .400 in the deciding frame.  Demirkol opened the fifth set with an ace and added four more kills in the stanza to help the Braves to the 16-14 victory.  With Missouri State holding match point at 14-13, Thompson tied things up at 14-14 with a kill and Coggin added a kill of her own to put Bradley in front 15-14.  Demirkol closed out the 16-14 victory with her fourth kill of the set and 12th of the evening.

Bradley nearly closed out the match in the fourth set, building a 21-18 advantage.  Missouri State collected 17 kills in the frame, however, and rallied to force a deciding fifth set with a 25-22 win.  The Bears had back-to-back points to make it a one-point contest at 21-20 before a Raeann Bergman kill gave the Braves a 22-20 edge.  Missouri State rattled off five straight points to take the set 25-22.

Coggin, who had five kills in both the third and fourth sets, highlighted a late Bradley surge in the third to highlight a 25-20 victory.  The Braves, which hit .313 in the set, led 18-17 when Coggin had three straight kills for BU to highlight a 5-1 BU run that was capped to a Thompson ace as Bradley built a 23-18 edge. The Braves would eventually take the set 25-20.

After Bradley took the first set 25-23, Missouri State had to rally in the second to even the match.  The Braves held a 22-21 lead after a MSU service error only to see the Bears answer with three straight points that included back-to-back kills from Manuela Ibarguen to give Missouri State set point at 24-22.  Amelia Flynn followed a Bradley block with a kill to close out a 25-23 MSU victory.

Bergman, who finished with eight kills and nine blocks, highlighted a 25-22 first-set win for BU with a kill and three blocks.  Kauling broke a 20-20 tie with a kill and Thompson added one of her own to put the Braves in front for good.  A Bergman block made it a 23-20 Bradley advantage.  Sophomore Abby Johnson chased a Missouri State block with a kill to give BU set point at 24-21 and Bergman would later seal a 25-22 Bradley victory with a kill.

The Braves close out a two-match MVC road swing Saturday with a 5 p.m. match at Southern Illinois.
