Volleyball Picks Up Road Sweep At SIU

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Senior Kora Kauling highlighted a balanced attack with another near triple-double as Bradley Volleyball rolled to a 25-18, 25-16, 25-21 road victory at Southern Illinois to push the Braves road win streak to three straight contests.

A week removed from her first career triple-double, Kauling almost turned in another as she collected 10 kills, 22 assists, eight digs, one ace and two blocks to help Bradley (13-11 overall, 9-4 MVC) to the road sweep.

Fellow senior Hannah Thompson nearly had a double-double of her own with nine kills and 11 digs, while freshman Kaylenn Hunt added eight kills, seven digs and four blocks.

Junior Carlee Camlin served up six of Bradley's eight aces, including four in the second set, to collect the most aces in a three-set match by a Brave dating back to the 2003 season (Lindsay Stalzer vs. Eastern Illinois on Sept. 6, 2003).

Raeann Bergman helped power Bradley to a 25-18 opening-set victory with five kills and three of her match-high five blocks in the first. Bergman, who finished with six kills on the night, had three kills and a block during an 8-1 BU run that put the Braves comfortably in front 16-8. Bradley hit .371 in the frame and cruised to the 25-18 win.

Setters Kauling and Camlin highlighted the 25-16 second-set victory for Bradley. Southern Illinois (5-20 overall, 0-12 MVC) jumped out to an early 5-1 lead before Camlin served 11 consecutive points.

Freshman Silan Demirkol, who finished with six kills, opened an 11-0 Bradley run with a kill. Camlin followed with back-to-back aces and would end up serving four of her career-best six aces during the spurt that saw the Braves build a 12-5 advantage. Southern Illinois managed to get as close as five (14-9), before a 5-0 Bradley push put things out of reach. Kauling had four kills, four digs, two blocks and an ace to highlight the 25-16 win for the Braves.

SIU got out front early again in the third set and held a 12-9 advantage before Bradley came surging back. Back-to-back Camlin aces after a Doga Topcicek kill tied things up at 12-12. Kauling later broke a 15-15 tie with her 10^th kill of the contest to spark a 4-0 BU run that featured a pair of kills from Hunt. The Salukis managed to pull back within one at 21-20 when Hunt found the floor with one of her six third-set kills to make it 22-20 in favor of the Braves. Hunt had five of Bradley's final eight kills on the night, eventually giving BU match point at 24-21 and a SIU attack error closed out the 25-21 Bradley victory.

With the win, Bradley has swept the regular-season series with Southern Illinois for the second straight year and the Braves have won five straight from SIU. In fact, Bradley has won four consecutive road matches in the series and eight of the last nine meetings overall.

The Braves are 9-4 to start MVC play for a fourth consecutive season and seventh time overall.

Bradley returns to Renaissance Coliseum next weekend, opening the final home stand of the year Friday with a 6 p.m. match against Indiana State.
