Women's Basketball Set for Monday Sister Showdown

Monday's matchup against Upper Iowa will feature sisters Gabi (Bradley) and Lydia (Upper Iowa) Haack

Bradley will continue its season-opening, 3-game home stand Monday by hosting NCAA II Upper Iowa for a matchup of the Haack sisters ... the Braves are led by fifth-year senior guard Gabi Haack, while UIU's roster features sophomore guard Lydia Haack, who led the Peacocks in scoring last season.

SISTER, SISTER
•  Monday's matchup against Upper Iowa will feature a pair of sister acts.
•  Bradley's lineup includes sisters Sasha and Tatum Koenig, giving the Braves a sisters combo on the roster for a third consecutive season (Lasha and Mahri Petree, 2019-21).
•  While the Braves are led by fifth-year senior guard Gabi Haack, Upper Iowa is led by Gabi's younger sister, sophomore guard Lydia Haack.
•  Gabi Haack is on the verge of setting Bradley's all-time scoring record, while Lydia Haack paced the Peacocks in scoring at 14.5 points per game last season.
 
SERIES HISTORY
First Meeting
•  Bradley is facing Upper Iowa in a regular-season game for the first time in program history.
•  The teams did match up for an exhibition game Nov. 4, 2017 at Renaissance Coliseum, a 79-40 Bradley victory.
•  Then freshman guard Gabi Haack scored 12 points on four 3-point field goals in her first-ever game at Renaissance Coliseum.
•  Bradley is hosting a regular-season game against at non-Division 1 opponent for a seventh consecutive year and the Braves have won each of the previous six such matchups by at least 40 points and at an average margin of victory of 47.3 points.
 
DEFENDING THE HOME COURT
•  As Bradley continues its season-opening, 3-game home stand, the longest stretch of home games to open a season in program history, the Braves will look to extend their current 3-game home winning streak Monday night against Upper Iowa.
•  Since the start of the 2018-19 season, Bradley is 34-9 (.761) in its last 43 home games at Renaissance Coliseum.
•  The program record for the most home wins in a 4-year stretch has stood since 1983 after the Braves posted a 38-14 (.731) record at Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse from 1979-83.
•  Prior to the start of the 2018-19 season, Bradley had gone five consecutive seasons without a winning home record and the Braves had not posted a double-digit home wins total since 2008-09 (12-2).
 
IMPRESSIVE DEBUTS
•  Two of Bradley's newcomers in particular stood out in the team's 84-65 season-opening win Nov. 9 against Wright State.
•  Freshman guard Caroline Waite scored a game-high 23 points by draining 9-of-13 field goal attempts, including 5-of-9 from beyond the 3-point arc, while also dishing five assists, snaring three rebounds.
•  The 5-foot-4-inch guard even recorded the team's first blocked shot of the season.
•  Sophomore forward Daija Powell, a first-year transfer from Texas Tech posted career bests with 18 points and six rebounds in her Bradley debut..
 
FRESHMAN SCORING
•  Freshman guard Caroline Waite led the Braves with 23 points in the season-opener, equalling the second-best scoring total in a Bradley debut in program history.
•  Lasha Petree set the mark with 24 points against Southeast Missouri State Nov. 10, 2018, topping the previous record of 23 points by Judy Burns against SIU Edwardsville Nov. 20, 1981.
•  Burns followed her 23-point debut in 1981 with 26 in her second game and tacked on 30 in third game of Bradley's 3-game home stand to open the 1981-82 season.
•  Petree followed her debut with 21 points against Rockhurst Nov. 18, 2018, giving her 45 points in her first two games as a Brave.
•  Heather Best owns Bradley's single-game scoring record by a freshman, dropping 31 in a 96-90, overtime win against Indiana State Feb. 29, 1996.
 
PROVIDING ASSISTANCE
•  Displaying impressive ball movement in the season-opener, Bradley recorded 25 assists on its 31 (.806) field goals against Wright State.
•  Seven different student-athletes recorded at least one assist, paced by Gabi Haack, who matched her career best with eight dimes.
•  The 25 assists were the most since dishing out 27 assists in the 104-53 win against Quincy Dec. 18, 2020.
•  The 25 assists were the most for the Braves against a NCAA Division I opponent since recording 25 in an 82-51 win against Evansville Jan. 3, 2020.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
•  Bradley will wrap its season-opening, 3-game home stand by welcoming Big Ten Conference member Wisconsin for a 6:30 p.m. tip Friday at Renaissance Coliseum.
•  Wisconsin will follow Illinois and Iowa as just the third B1G team to visit Renaissance Coliseum since the arena opened in 2010.
•  Following Friday's clash against the Badgers, Bradley will be on the road for its next two games, Nov. 22 at Northern Illinois and Nov. 26 at Minnesota.
