DEKALB, IL – Fifth-year senior guard Gabi Haack (Elk River, MN/Elk River HS) broke the Missouri Valley Conference career record for 3-point field goals on the way to a game-high 27 points, but Bradley (3-1) could not overcome the inside game from host Northern Illinois (2-1) as the Braves suffered their first loss of the season Monday night at the NIU Convocation Center.

Led by 21 points and 13 rebounds from A'Jah Davis, Northern Illinois put four players in double figures and outscored the Braves, 42-26, in the paint.  Mikayla Brandon added a second double-double for the Huskies with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while the Huskies also received double-digit scoring from a pair of guards – Chelby Koker with 18 points and Janae Poisson with 11.

Haack was Bradley's lone double-digit scorer, though, freshman forward Abbie Draper pulled down a career-best 10 rebounds off the bench for the Braves.  While Haack was 9-of-16 from the field, including 6-of-9 (.667) from 3-point range, the other nine Bradley players combined to make just 13-of-48 (.271) field goal attempts and only 2-of-18 (.111) from beyond the arc.

Haack wasted little time in her MVC 3-point record pursuit, matching exactly the effort by Creighton's Dayna Finch from 2000-04 by draining her first attempt of the night to push her career effort to 294-of-766 (Finch's final totals for the Bluejays).  Haack broke Finch's mark with her second attempt for an 8-6 Bradley lead 3:09 into the game and finished the game with 299 career 3-pointers.

Northern Illinois answered Haack's record-breaking trey with a Brandon triple on the ensuing possession, however, and the Huskies never looked back.  Bradley was within 20-17 after a Tete Danso layup with 1:49 left in the opening quarter, but NIU closed the period on a 9-2 run, then outscored the Braves, 19-8, in the second quarter to break things open.

Haack opened the third quarter with another trey to close the gap to 47-31, but a quick 7-0 burst from the Huskies doused any hopes of a comeback as the Braves got not closer than 16 the rest of the way.

Bradley, which capped its season-opening, 3-game home stand with a 64-57 win last Friday against Wisconsin, will take another shot at the Big Ten Conference this Friday when the Braves visit Minnesota for a 3 p.m. matchup at Williams Arena.  The game against the Gophers will serve as a homecoming for a trio of Bradley players:  Haack (Elk River, MN), Danso (Inver Grove Heights) and junior forward Sierra Morrow (Minneapolis, MN), who was named the MVC Newcomer of the Week Monday afternoon.
