Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Bobby Parker, Sr. Associate AD for Communications and Event & Facility Operations
PEORIA, IL – The Bradley Women's Basketball team may not have been familiar with the home environment, but the Braves shooters quickly made themselves familiar with hitting the bottom of the net.  Fifth-year senior guard Gabi Haack scored a game-high 26 points and freshman guard Caroline Waite pumped in 24, leading Bradley to a 101-75 exhibition win versus McKendree Thursday night at Carver Arena.

Playing at the home of Bradley Men's Basketball, Thursday's exhibition tipped of a Bradley doubleheader as the men's squad hosted UIS in exhibition action immediately after the women's game.

The Braves started slow, trailing 20-14 after a Kaelyn Froebe jumper with 2:07 left in the first quarter, but a Sierra Morrow transition layup launched a 9-2 run to close the quarter and Bradley never looked back.  After a Haack trey, assisted by Morrow, and a Sasha Koenig steal and layup, Morrow set the quarter score, 23-22, with a second fast break layup.

Waite scored 18 in the first half to pace the Braves through the first 20 minutes and Haack poured in 14 third-quarter points to help Bradley put the game away.  Waite (6-for-8) and Haack (4-for-7) combined to drain 10-of-15 (.667) 3-point field goal attempts.

Senior guard Chloe Rice added 11 points, five rebounds and three steals off the bench and sophomore forward Daija Powell chipped in 10 points and three blocked shots for the Braves.  Morrow shared game-high honors with 11 rebounds to go along with her six points, two assists and two blocked shots.

Bradley finished the game shooting 54.4 percent (37-68) from the field, including 13-for-28 (.464) from 3-point range.  The Braves also connected on 14-of-17 (.824) free throw attempts.  Seven different Braves dished out multiple assists as Bradley ended with a 21-14 assists-to-turnovers ratio, compared to a 13-to-21 ratio for the Bearcats.

Froebe led five McKendree players in double figures with 17 points, while Christy Fortune put up a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

With its lone, public exhibition in the books, the defending Missouri Valley Conference Tournament champion Braves will turn their attention to a tough regular-season opener Tuesday night (6:30 p.m.) at Renaissance Coliseum.  Before taking on a Wright State squad that won its first-round NCAA Tournament game against Arkansas last season, the Braves will celebrate their 2021 Valley title and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance with a pregame ring presentation and banner unveil ceremony.
