Roberts Named Valley Player and Newcomer of the Week

After leading the Bradley men's basketball team to the Sun Bowl Championship, junior Terry Roberts has added Missouri Valley Conference Player and Newcomer of the Week honors to his list of accolades.

Named the MVP at the 2021 Weststar Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational, Roberts keyed the Braves' victories over Sam Houston and host UTEP en route to the title. The junior averaged 24.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steal in the two wins as BU claimed its sixth regular-season tournament title in school history.

After a 23-point contest in the opener against Sam Houston, Roberts put together the most productive game of his young Division I career with the title on the line against UTEP. Roberts posted his first career double-double with personal-best totals of 26 points – making 8-of-17 field goals and 4-of-8 from 3-point range – 11 rebounds and three blocks as he led a BU victory versus the Miners.

Overall, Roberts leads Bradley with 16.6 points, 4.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 2021-22. He currently ranks fourth in the Valley in scoring, fifth in assists and second in steals. In six games during the month of December, Roberts scored at least 20 points in four contests, while averaging 20.0 points per game and shooting 54.2 percent from the floor.

Roberts is the 23rd player in Valley history to sweep the Player and Newcomer weekly accolade and just the second Brave to accomplish the feat – Darrell Brown won both awards in Nov. 2016. It also marks the second Newcomer of the Week award for the junior as he was honored on Dec. 6.
