Braves Roll Past SIU Edwardsville, 80-55

Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley men's basketball team cruised to its third-straight victory on Saturday afternoon, earning an 80-55 victory over SIU Edwardsville at Carver Arena. The Braves are now 4-5 on the season, while the Cougars drop to 3-6.
 
Junior Terry Roberts led BU with an all-around effort, scoring 17 points to go with four assists, four steals and four rebounds. Sophomore Jayson Kent chipped in a season-best 13 points – connecting on four 3-pointers – while senior Ja'Shon Henry also scored in double figures with 11 points.
 
Senior Rienk Mast and junior Malevy Leons anchored a strong defensive performance on the day as Mast collected a game-high nine rebounds and Leons recorded a career-best four blocks.
 
After the two schools played a tight first 12 minutes to the game, Bradley broke open the contest with a dominating run to finish the half. Leading by just one point, 23-22, the Braves outscored the Cougars by a 22-4 margin the rest of the period to head into the locker room with a 19-point advantage, 45-26. The Bradley defense forced SIUE into missing its final seven shots of the half to go with four turnovers in building the lead.
 
The second half started just like the first half finished. Bradley quickly built its lead to 24 points, 50-26, as SIUE did not end its more than 12-minute scoring drought until 14:51 remained on the clock. Overall, Bradley forced nine Cougars miscues in the 12-minute stretch in addition to 10-straight missed shots. The Braves cruised to the victory from there as they led by as many as 30 points before securing the 80-55 victory.

 

 
Bradley shot 50.0 percent in the winning effort, including a 10-of-22 mark from beyond the arc (45.5%). SIU Edwardsville, were forced into 27.6 percent shooting with a 2-of-18 clip from 3-point range.
 
The Braves look to carry their three-game winning streak to the road as they take on Toledo on Tuesday night. First tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
 
Game Notes: Bradley set season highs in field goal percentage defense (27.6%), steals (13) and blocks (10) … The Braves have won their last 32 games when making at least 50 percent of their shots … BU has made 43.7 percent of its 3-point shots during the last four games after starting the season by shooting 25.2 percent … The Braves are now 4-0 all-time against SIU Edwardsville.
