Terry Roberts Named MVC Newcomer of the Week

After leading the Bradley men's basketball team to a pair of victories last week, junior Terry Roberts was honored with Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honors on Monday.

In wins over Northern Iowa and SIU Edwardsville, Roberts tallied 18.5 points – shooting 55.2 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from 3-point range. The junior college transfer also added 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals against the Panthers and Cougars.

Roberts scored 20 points in the Valley opener versus Northern Iowa, including the game-winning basket with just 4.5 seconds remaining to lead BU to the win in his first career MVC game. He then added 17 points as an encore against SIUE – making 7-of-11 field goals and 2-of-3 from 3-point range – to go with four rebounds, four assists and a season-best four steals.

In nine games in his first season as a Brave, Roberts leads Bradley 14.8 points, 3.9 assists and 1.67 steals per game. His 133 points are the most by a Brave in their first nine games on campus since Marcellus Sommerville in 2003-04.

Roberts has led the Braves to three-straight victories and BU puts its winning streak on the line on Tuesday night with a road contest at Toledo. First tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
