Second-Half Run Lifts Illinois State Past Bradley

Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley men's basketball team suffered an 88-71 setback to Illinois State on Thursday night. The Braves are now 11-14 on the year and 5-11 in Missouri Valley Conference play, while the Redbirds improve to 7-15 and 4-12 versus league foes.
 
Junior Ja'Shon Henry led Bradley with 15 points on the night. Junior Kevin McAdoo and redshirt freshman Rienk Mast chipped in 12 points apiece for the Braves. Freshman Darius Hannah led Bradley with seven rebounds, while sophomore Antonio Thomas had a game-high four assists.
 
Illinois State started the contest strong, sinking a 3-pointer on its first two possessions and scoring the first eight points overall. The Braves settled in and quickly pulled within three, 13-10, and eventually was down just a single point, 23-22. Illinois State always answered Bradley's runs in the opening half and headed into the locker room with a 35-32 advantage.
 
The Braves continued to chip away at their deficit in the second half and finally pulled even at 49 with 13:46 remaining in the game. However, Illinois State answered with a 3-pointer on its next possession, starting an 11-0 run that eventually blossomed into an 18-4 spurt for a 67-53 advantage. The Redbirds then finished off the 88-71 victory at Carver Arena.
 
Illinois State shot 57.4 percent in the winning effort, including a 70.4 percent mark in the decisive second half. The Braves converted 43.1 percent of their shots on the night.
 
Bradley is now off until next Friday, hosting Drake in a two-game series at Carver Arena.
 
Game Notes: The Braves lost for just the fourth time in 14 games when scoring at least 65 points in regulation this season … McAdoo has scored in double figures in three of the last four games after not doing so in any of his first 11 games as a Brave … Freshman Connor Linke scored a career-best five points in five minutes during the first half … Illinois State has won two straight in the series after the Braves claimed the previous five.
