Game Recap: Volleyball |
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Three Braves turned in double-doubles, highlighted by a team-high 18 kills and match-best 23 digs from junior Hannah Thompson, as Bradley Volleyball topped Evansville 25-19, 25-20, 18-25, 27-25 Sunday night at Meeks Fieldhouse for the team's first road win of the year.

Thompson, who moved up three spots into 19th on Bradley's career kills list in the victory, was one of three Bradley players to post double-doubles.  Fellow junior Kora Kauling added 42 assists along with career highs of 18 digs and six blocks, while Kat Poore notched a season-best 15 kills to go with her 16 digs.

Bradley (4-3 overall, 4-3 MVC) pushed its win streak in the series to six consecutive matches and the Braves are now 8-2 in the last 10 meetings with the Purple Aces (3-6 overall, 2-5 MVC).

Thompson had six kills and six digs to help highlight a 25-19 opening-set victory for Bradley.  The Braves led for most of the first set, but broke open a 19-17 contest with back-to-back kills from sophomore Karagan Coggin to take a 21-18 lead.  With the Braves leading 23-19, Thompson sandwiched kills around an Evansville error to give Bradley the opening set.  Coggin, who finished with 11 kills, added five kills on just eight swings with no errors in the first set, helping Bradley hit a blistering .394 in the frame.

Poore and Thompson each had four kills in the second set to help power the Braves to a 25-20 victory.  With Bradley leading 20-18, Poore followed an Evansville service error with a kill to push the lead to four and the teams traded points before another kill from Poore gave the Braves a 24-19 edge.  Evansville held off set point with an Alondra Vazquez kill, only to have Bradley seal the second-set win on an attack error by the Aces.

Looking to complete the sweep, Bradley led early on in third set; only to have Evansville take control with a 6-0 spurt.  The Braves pulled even at 15-15 on a Poore kill, when the Aces rattled off six consecutive points to go in front 21-16.  Evansville, which hit .304 in the third set, went on take the frame 25-18 and force a fourth set.

Bradley had to rally from behind in the fourth after Evansville built a 17-10 lead on a Cecilia Thon ace.  Six straight points got the Braves back in the contest, however, with Thompson serving up a pair of aces and notching a kill during the run that also included a kill by Poore, as Bradley pulled to within one at 17-16.

The Braves eventually pulled even at 23-23 on an Evansville error and fought off set point at 24-23 with Thompson's 18th kill of the night.  With UE once again holding set point at 25-24 after a kill, the Braves pulled even at 25-25 on a service error.  An Evansville attack error would give Bradley match point at 26-25 and Poore put the finishing touches on a 27-25 win to cap a four-set BU victory with her 15h kill of the night.

Thompson broke into the top 20 in career kills at Bradley, jumping up three spots into 19th and now has 852 kills during her time on The Hilltop.

Bradley and Evansville close out the series Monday with a 6 p.m. match in Evansville, Ind.
