Game Recap: Volleyball |
The Bradley volleyball team opened a key Missouri Valley Conference series featuring two of the top four teams in the standings with a three-set sweep of Loyola on Sunday afternoon at Renaissance Coliseum. The Braves are now 9-4 on the year, while the Ramblers drop to 6-5 in conference play.

Junior Hannah Thompson led the Braves with 12 kills and 14 digs on the day, attacking at a 40.7 percent clip in her double-double performance. Sophomore Karagan Coggin and freshman Abby Johnson also chipped in nine kills apiece with sophomore Raeann Bergman adding seven kills. Junior Kora Kauling paced the attack with 36 assists in the winning performance.

Bradley took control early in the opening set with a 7-1 run to pull in front by four, 9-5. The Ramblers eventually clawed their way back into the first set and tied the game at 17 only for the Braves to respond with a 5-1 run to go back ahead by four, 22-18. Bergman then finished the set with a kill for the 25-22 early Bradley advantage.

The second set featured the two schools trading runs throughout. Four-straight points gave the Ramblers a 12-9 lead with Loyola eventually leading, 14-11. However, a long rally in favor of the Braves ignited an 8-1 run as Bradley moved ahead, 19-15. Loyola, though, would use a 5-0 spurt of its own to move in front at the finish line, 23-21. One final run by the Braves, however, led to BU scoring five of the final six points – with three kills off the arm of Johnson – as Bradley secured the 26-24 set two victory.

The Braves carried over their momentum into the third set as Bradley quickly claimed an 11-3 lead. Loyola was only as close as six points the rest of the set as BU finished off the sweep with a 25-15 set three victory.

Bradley posted an attacking percentage of .237 in the winning effort, while limiting Loyola to just .095 over the three sets.

The schools wrap up the series tomorrow with a 5 p.m. first serve at Renaissance Coliseum.
