Game Recap: Baseball | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
MACON, GA – Freshman 2B Jackson Chatterton was 3-for-4 and his first career home run helped pull Bradley out of a big, early hole, but Mercer (8-9) used a 2-out, 2-run single in the eighth inning to pull out an 11-9 win Friday night in the opening game of this weekend's series at OrthoGeorgia Park.

The Braves (5-5) found themselves in a 6-0 hole after the first inning and still trailed 9-3 after two innings, before scratching their way back into the game.

Despite allowing three runs in a spotty second inning, freshman RHP Taylor Catton took control on the mound by holding the Bears scoreless from the third through the seventh innings.  In between, RF Dan Bolt (4) and DH Eli Rawlinson (3) hit solo home runs in the third inning; CF Ryan Vogel and Bolt delivered RBI singles in the fourth; and Chatterton launched his 2-run blast down the right field line in the sixth to pull the Braves even, 9-9.

Junior LHP Troy Hickey (0-2) relieved Catton to start the eighth inning and ran into immediate trouble by issuing a leadoff walk.  A sacrifice bunt, base hit and 2-out walk loaded the bases for Brandon Michie, who delivered for the hosts with a 2-run single to left field.

The teams will conclude the 2-day, 3-game series with a 2 p.m. ET doubleheader Saturday at OrthoGeorgia Park.

Notes:  The bottom three hitters in the Bradley order – LF Carson Husmann (2-for-4, RBI); SS TJ Manteufel (2-for-4, 2 RBI); and Chatterton (3-for-4, 2 RBI); combined for seven hits and five runs batted in … Freshman CF Ryan Vogel was 2-for-5, extending his overall hitting streak to seven games and his streak of consecutive games with multiple hits to five games … Bolt's solo home run in the third inning was the 27th of his career, moving him into a tie for sixth on Bradley's all-time list.
