PEORIA, Ill. – Sophomore infielder Lucy Mead (West Seattle, Wash./West Seattle) has been named this week's Bradley Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping Bradley Softball take two of three games from Valparaiso to open Missouri Valley Conference play.

Mead went 6-for-9 at the plate in the series, collecting hits in each game and scored or drove in six of BU's 21 runs in the series.  She went a perfect 3-for-3 in the opener with a stolen base and run scored to help highlight a 5-3 win in the series opener.  Mead followed that up by going 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI in a 16-1 victory in the nightcap that was Bradley's largest margin of victory in a MVC contest in program history.  She capped the weekend with a 1-for-3 effort in Sunday's series finale to extend her season-best hit streak to five games.  A psychology major, Mead owns a 3.39 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a student-athlete is selected as the Bradley Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in academic standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Mead and the Braves return to action this weekend, opening a three-game series at Southern Illinois with a noon doubleheader in Carbondale, Ill.
