Game Recap: Soccer | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
PEORIA, IL – The Bradley soccer team rallied from a two-goal second-half deficit only for Loyola to respond with an overtime winner in a 3-2 contest at Shea Stadium on Wednesday night. The Braves are now 2-5-1 this season with a 1-5-1 record in Missouri Valley Conference action, while the Ramblers improve to 4-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 versus league foes.

Loyola grabbed control of the contest in the first half with two goals in the first 20 minutes of action. Billy Hency scored from the spot in the game's 13th minute before Andrew Mitchell finished off a corner kick less than eight minutes later for the 2-0 advantage.

The Braves, however, would fight back. Saadiq Mohammed scored his first goal of the season in the 53rd minute to cut Bradley's deficit in half. Jake Schoffstall sent the ball into the box on a long throw-in and after Mohammed's initial shot was saved, he collected the loose ball and scored from close range for the 2-1 score.

Bradley then pulled even with a late goal in the 87th minute of play. A clearance by the Ramblers found the foot of Brock Pope, who then sent it out wide to Schoffstall. Schoffstall quickly sent the ball back into the box and Jack Douglas finished from 10 yards out for the 2-2 score with just over three minutes remaining.

The Braves then nearly pulled off the comeback in regulation when Gerit Wintermeyer got past the defense in the closing seconds before eventually being pulled down by a Loyola defender. The official ruled the foul just outside the box and the Braves were unable to take advantage of the ensuing free kick with three seconds remaining.

Loyola then won the game just over a minute into the extra session. A free kick led to Michael Hong sending a diving header into the net for the 3-2 final score.

Loyola outshot the Braves, 23-7, on the night with Bryce Logan stopping a career-best 10 shots in net for Bradley.

The Braves are back in action on Sunday, playing their final MVC game of the regular season at Drake. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
