Game Recap: Softball |
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Bradley Softball managed just two hits off Miami (Ohio) starter Courtney Vierstra as the Braves wrapped up play at the Cardinal Classic with an 11-0 loss to the Redhawks Saturday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium.

Vierstra took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning before junior Taise Thompson ripped a one-out single to center field in the bottom of the seventh.  Sophomore Keeler van Breusegen followed with a single of her own and Bradley had runners at second and third with just one out, but Miami (5-5 overall) turned a double play to close out the victory.

The Braves found themselves in an early hole after the Redhawks plated a pair in the top of the first and tacked on two more runs in the second on a two-out bases-loaded single by Allie Cummins that gave Miami a 4-0 lead.  The Redhawks' lead was 5-0 after a RBI single by Holly Blaska in the third.

Junior Jillian Navarro was hit by a pitch to leadoff the bottom half of the third to give Bradley its first baserunner of the afternoon.  Navarro later stole second, but the Braves were unable to get her home.

Blaska struck again later in the game, smacking a two-run double in the fifth to push the Miami lead to 7-0.  The Redhawks came up empty after threatening again in the top of the sixth, before pushing four runs across in the top half of the seventh.  The first run came home on a sacrifice fly and Cummins drove in two more runs with a two-run homer to left.  A walk and single put two runners on for Kate Kobayashi, who made it an 11-0 Miami advantage with a RBI single to center.

In addition to breaking up the no hitter in the seventh, Thompson struck out a career-best six in 2.2 innings out of the bullpen for the Braves.

Bradley returns home to host DePaul in a noon doubleheader at Petersen Hotels Field at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex Monday.  The first game of the twinbill will be available on ESPN+.
