Braves With Strong Start at Drake Relays

The Bradley track and field teams opened competition at the Drake Relays on Thursday night with four top-five times in school history in addition to one first-place finish.

Senior Scott Seymour got things started for BU, finishing first of 18 runners in the 800m run. Seymour clocked a time of 1:50.70 –just three tenths of a second off his PR, which ranks second in the Bradley record book.

Junior Evan Mitchell also highlighted the action for the Bradley men. Mitchell shaved nearly 11 seconds off his previous best time and posted a mark of 9:00.82 in the 3,000m steeplechase – the fourth-best time in school history.

Junior Matt Aho led BU in the 5,000m run, crossing the finish line in 14:26.18, which is just two seconds off his previous best – the seventh-best time in BU history.

A trio of top-five times in school history highlighted Thursday's action for the BU women. Sophomore Tyler Schwartz clocked a time of 16:46.98 in the 5,000m run, which ranks as the fifth-best time in the Bradley record book and the fastest by any Brave in five years.

Freshman Julia Nielsen added a time of 4:23.72 in the 1,500m run to cross the finish line in second place of 20 runners. Nielsen's time is also the fourth-best in school history. Finally, freshman Sophia McDonnell shaved more than 27 seconds off her career best in the 3,000m steeplechase and now owns the third-best mark in school history at 10:40.76. Additionally, current record holder McKenzie Altmayer made her season debut and posted a time of 10:55.60 in the event.

Bradley continues action at the Drake Relays on Friday, starting at 2 p.m.
