Game Recap: Softball |
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Taise Thompson drove in another run and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, but Missouri State took advantage of four Bradley errors to end the Braves season as the Bears posted a 6-4 victory Thursday night in the third round of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.

After driving in all three Bradley (20-22 overall) runs in the day's first game, Thompson got the Braves on the scoreboard first with a RBI double in the top of the first.  Vicki Zaluske was hit by a pitch and Thompson followed with her fifth double of the year to drive her in from first.

Missouri State (26-18) answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning.  Daphne Plummer, who went 4-for-4 with three runs, led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch before coming home on a BU error to tie the score at 1-1.

Bradley retook the lead with a run in the top of the third.  Singles by Lucy Mead and Zaluske along with a walk to Thompson loaded the bases and Mead came home on a fly ball to left by Stacia Seeton to give the Braves a 2-1 advantage.

The lead was short-lived, however, with Missouri State answering with a run in the bottom half again.  Plummer legged out a triple to center and came home on a two-out bloop-single by Darian Frost as the Bears pulled even again at 2-2.

Missouri State capitalized on two Bradley errors in a four-run fourth.  The first run of the inning came home thanks to a Bradley error on a play at third on a fielder's choice.  With two on, Plummer singled to center and another BU error allowed both base runners and Plummer to come home as the Bears built a 6-2 advantage.

Bradley didn't go quietly, getting a run in the fifth and another in the sixth.  In the fifth, the Braves had two on after a Mead single and Monteer walk.  Both runners advanced on a double steal and a Missouri State throwing error allowed Mead to race home.

A two-out rally in the sixth led to another Bradley run.  Samantha Smith was hit by a pitch with two outs and Grace French drove her home with a double to left center as Bradley pulled within two at 6-4.

Missouri State's Steffany Dickerson came on in the circle with two on and two outs in the sixth to end the inning with a strikeout and retired the Braves in order in a scoreless seventh to close out the 6-4 win for the Bears that sent MSU to a Friday semifinal contest against #2 seed Northern Iowa.
