Game Recap: Volleyball |
VERMILLION, S.D. -- Carlee Camlin had career highs in kills and assists and Bradley Volleyball received another double-double from senior Hannah Thompson, but Milwaukee recovered from a first-set BU victory to top the Braves 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-12 Friday morning at the South Dakota Classic.

Camlin dished out a career-best 40 assists and also had a career-high four kills to go with six digs and two blocks, while Thompson posted her fifth double-double of the year and 62nd of her career with 14 kills and 12 digs to pace Bradley (1-6 overall).  The Braves also received a season-best 12 kills from sophomore Doga Topcicek in the setback.

Bradley had one of its best offensive efforts of the year, hitting a combined .300 through the first three sets, before Milwaukee (3-4 overall) forced 10 BU errors in the fourth set.

The Braves hit .314 as a team in the first set, cruising to a 25-18 victory behind five first-set kills from junior Karagan Coggin.  Thompson, who served up four aces in the match, helped Bradley take control of the first set by highlighting a 5-0 run that gave the Braves a 13-7 advantage with an ace and kill.  The BU lead dipped below four just once down the stretch with Milwaukee cutting the deficit to 13-10 when Abby Johnson and Raeann Bergman combined for a block.  Coggin added a kill as Bradley quickly pushed the lead back to five (15-10) and went on to take the opener 25-18.

Milwaukee opened the second set with a 6-1 run and the Panthers led by as many as nine points (19-10) before Bradley clawed back into the contest.  With the Braves trailing 20-11, Thompson sparked a 6-0 BU run with a kill and ace.  She later added back-to-back aces to pull the Braves within three at 20-17.  Bradley managed to cut the Milwaukee lead to as little as one at 21-20 on one of Topcicek's five second-set kills.  The Panthers answered with back-to-back points, however, and outscored Bradley 4-1 down the stretch to even the match with a 25-21 victory.

The third set was the most competitive of the match with four lead changes and 12 ties.  Neither team led by more than two points throughout the stanza with Bradley holding a 21-19 advantage.  A Milwaukee block and kill tied things up at 21-21 and the score was knotted up again at 23-23 following a Bergman kill.  Milwaukee's Kleja Cerniauskaite broke the tie with a kill and a Bradley error closed out the 25-23 win for the Panthers.

Milwaukee hit a blistering .571 in the fourth set and forced 10 Bradley errors in the frame.  The Panthers jumped out to an 8-1 lead and eventually took the set 25-12 behind a 10-2 spurt to close out the stanza.

Bradley closes out action at the South Dakota Classic this afternoon with a 4:30 p.m. match against Central Arkansas.
