Game Recap: Volleyball |
DES MOINES, Iowa – Senior Hannah Thompson and junior Karagan Coggin paced Bradley with 15 kills each and three Braves posted double-doubles as BU picked up a win on the road with a 25-23, 26-24, 22-25, 25-22 victory at Drake Saturday at the Knapp Center.

Coggin hit a .400 clip and was one of four Bradley (5-8 overall, 1-1 MVC) individuals in double figures in kills, tying Thompson for team-high honors with 15 kills.  Thompson, who passed Jenna Passman for eighth on the Bradley career kills list, finished with 15 kills and a season-high 25 digs for her 66th career double-double.  Sophomore Doga Topcicek collected a career-best 14 kills and also had 15 digs and four blocks, while senior Kora Kauling notched a career-best 12 kills and 36 assists to highlight the win for the Braves.

The first set featured 11 ties and five lead changes with Bradley using a late push to take the opener 25-23.  Drake (6-4 overall, 1-1 MVC) led 23-22 when Coggin knotted things up at 23-23 with her fourth kill in the frame.  Carlee Camlin gave Bradley set point at 24-23 with a kill and Topcicek capped the 25-23 victory with a block solo.

Drake held set point at 24-22 in the second set before Bradley used another late surge.  Topcicek, who had five kills in the second, started a 4-0 BU run with a kill.  A Drake set error pulled the Braves even at 24-24 and Thompson found the floor with a kill to give the Braves set point at 25-24.  A Drake attack error gave Bradley a 26-24 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.  Coggin helped highlight the second-set victory with six kills on just seven swings.

Both teams had their best offensive efforts in the third set with Drake managing to force a fourth set with a 25-22 win.  The Bulldogs, who hit .354 in the third, used a 4-0 run to build a 20-17 advantage, with Ashlynn Kuhn notching a pair of kills that put Drake in front.  Bradley pulled within one a pair of times down the stretch with the last at 22-21 before the Bulldogs forced a fourth set with a 25-22 victory.  The Braves dropped the third set despite hitting .326 in the stanza.

Drake led by as many as four in the fourth (14-10) before Bradley used a 9-0 run to take control.  Kauling, who had six kills in the fourth on just 11 swings, and Thompson each had a pair of kills during the spurt that saw the Braves grab a 19-14 advantage.  Drake managed to pull within two at 20-18 only to have Kauling come up with a kill to push the lead back to three and the Braves eventually held match point at 24-20 after a block by Topcicek and junior Raeann Bergman.  A Rachel Pranger kill would put the finishing touches on a 25-22 win to seal the Bradley victory.

Drake's Haley Bush finished with a match-high 20 kills to lead the Bulldogs.

Bradley plays seven of the next nine matches at home, opening the stretch next Friday with a 6 p.m. match against Southern Illinois at Renaissance Coliseum.
