PEORIA, Ill. – Senior women's golfer Megan Welch (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) has been named this week's Bradley Busey Bank Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping Bradley Women's Golf to a fifth-place finish at the season-opening Redbird Invitational.
Welch tied for ninth in the field at five-over 221 at the par-72 Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ill., posting the lowest 54-hole score of her Bradley career. After turning in matching two-over 74's during the opening two rounds on Sunday, Welch matched her low round from the 2020-21 season with a one-over 73 in the final round Monday to earn a share of ninth in the field. A mathematics education major, Welch owns a 3.59 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a student-athlete is selected as the Bradley Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in academic standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Welch and the Braves return to action next week, playing in the Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield, Mo., Monday and Tuesday.
