Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – After starting the Missouri Valley Conference campaign with four close contests, the Bradley men's basketball team cruised past Evansville on Wednesday night, earning a 79-47 victory at Carver Arena. The Braves are now 8-9 on the season with a 2-3 conference record, while the Purple Aces drop to 4-10 and 0-4 versus Valley foes.

Sophomore Rienk Mast and junior Terry Roberts led the Braves during the winning effort, both registering double-doubles. Mast posted his second-straight 20-point game with a season-best 23 to go with 13 rebounds. Roberts, meanwhile, scored 19 points to go with 10 boards and a game-high seven assists.

Mast dominated the first half, completing his double-double by the intermission as Bradley took a double-digit lead into the locker room. The sophomore scored Bradley's first four points before freshman Zek Montgomery finished an early 11-3 BU run with five points of his own for a lead the Braves would not relinquish.

The Purple Aces pulled to within three, 11-8, only for a Mast and-one to finish a 7-0 Bradley spurt and give BU its first double-digit advantage, 18-8. The sophomore then quickly added five more points as he totaled 12 points in the first 12 minutes of action – equaling the entire total of the Evansville team as Bradley led, 23-12. The Braves pushed their advantage to as many as 14 points before heading into the locker room with a 36-24 lead.

Overall, Mast finished the first half with 16 points and 11 rebounds to anchor BU in the first 20 minutes of action.

It was then Roberts' chance to shine in the second 20 minutes of play. The junior paced a strong BU attack in the second half as Bradley wasted no time in grabbing a 20-point advantage when Malevy Leons hit his third triple of the period for a 53-33 lead with 13:29 remaining. The Braves then cruised to the victory from there – matching its largest win of the season, 79-47.

The Braves shot 48.4 percent in the winning effort, including a 9-of-16 mark from 3-point range (56.3 percent). Bradley also held Evansville to just 29.1 percent shooting with a 6-of-25 mark from beyond the arc.

Bradley looks to continue with their winning ways with a road contest against I-74 rival Illinois State on Sunday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Marquee Sports Network and ESPN+.

Game Notes: Two Braves registered a double-double for the first time since Darrell Brown and Elijah Childs against IUPUI on Nov. 9, 2019 … Mast's double-double was his fifth of the season, while Roberts tallied his second … Bradley's 32-point victory came after its first four Valley games were decided by a total of 16 points … Bradley has won its last eight games against Evansville – its longest winning streak against a Valley school since 1998 … The Braves have won their last two games versus the Aces by a combined 65 points … Mast's 23 points are just one shy of his career best (24 versus Southern Illinois in the 2021 MVC Tournament) … Bradley's 56.3 percent shooting from 3-point range is a season high.
