Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Normal, Ill. – Illinois State used a strong second half to rally past the Bradley men's basketball team on Sunday night, 74-65. The Braves are now 8-10 on the season with a 2-4 mark in MVC play, while the Redbirds improve to 9-8 overall and 2-2 versus league foes.

Junior Terry Roberts led BU with 22 points – scoring 14 of his points in the first half as Bradley controlled the opening 20 minutes of action. Sophomore Rienk Mast registered his sixth double-double of the season and his second in as many games with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Bradley built an early lead thanks to strong shooting from beyond the arc. Trailing, 7-3, sophomore Jayson Kent and Roberts hit back-to-back triples for BU's first lead of the game, igniting a 32-8 run. The Braves made seven triples during the opening 13-plus minutes in building a 20-point advantage, 35-15. Illinois State would close to within 14 at the break, however, 40-26.

The Redbirds then carried their momentum into the second half, using a similar path as BU in the first by taking advantage of the 3-pointer. Illinois State scored the first six points to pull within single digits and used a 12-3 run overall to begin the stanza for a 43-38 contest. The Redbirds then grabbed the lead with a triple halfway through the period, 51-49, as part of an 11-0 run for the 57-49 advantage. Bradley pulled to within four, 61-57, with over three minutes remaining after Mast had a quick 5-0 spurt but Illinois State responded with a contested triple on its next possession to hold on to the victory.

Bradley made 41.4 percent of its field goals with an 11-of-34 mark from 3-point range. The Redbirds, meanwhile, hit on 43.9 percent of their shots with an 8-of-20 mark from beyond the arc, including a 7-of-10 performance in the second half.

The Braves are back in action on Wednesday night, playing at Drake for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

Game Notes: Mast is averaging 18.3 points over the last four games after starting the season by scoring 7.8 points in his first 14 contests … Roberts eclipsed 20 points for the sixth time this season … Illinois State has won three-straight in the series after Bradley had won the previous five.
