Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Des Moines, Iowa – The Bradley men's basketball team earned its first road conference victory of the season with an 83-71 win against preseason favorite Drake on Wednesday night. The Braves are now 9-10 on the season and 3-4 in Missouri Valley Conference action, while the Bulldogs see their 13-game home winning streak snapped to fall 13-6 overall and 4-2 versus league foes.

Junior Terry Roberts led Bradley with 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the winning effort. Overall, four Braves scored in double figures as sophomore Rienk Mast tallied 17 points and matched Roberts with eight rebounds. Freshman Connor Hickman chipped in a career-best 15 points, while junior Ville Tahvanainen added 11 points.

After a close game in the opening minutes, Bradley took the lead for good when Hickman hit a 3-pointer with 13:46 remaining in the first half for a 13-11 advantage. The Braves then gained a small cushion a couple minutes later with a quick 6-0 spurt for a 25-17 edge. Bradley led by as many as nine points in the opening 20 minutes of action – led by Hickman's 13 first-half points – before heading into the intermission with a 40-35 edge.

Bradley came out in the second half as it left the first and was able to gain a double-digit advantage, 51-41, just over four minutes into the frame. Drake made its run to pull within three, 53-50, but Bradley had the answers on the night. Hickman's driving layup pushed the BU lead back to five, while Tahvanainen hit three triples during a Bradley run as the visitors moved in front by 14, 76-62. Drake would only be as close as eight points the remainder of the game as BU earned the 83-71 victory.
