Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Valparaiso, Ind. – The Bradley men's basketball team earned its third-straight Missouri Valley Conference victory on Wednesday night, cruising to a road win at Valparaiso, 71-56. The Braves are now 11-10 on the season and 5-4 in conference action, while the Beacons see their two-game winning streak snapped and are now 10-11 overall and 3-6 versus league foes.

Sophomore Rienk Mast led Bradley with 17 points and six rebounds in the winning effort, making 6-of-8 field goals. Junior Terry Roberts added 13 points to go with team-highs with six boards and six assists. Junior Malevy Leons rounded out the double-digit scorers for BU with 12 points.

Bradley started the contest strong and used the outside shot to grab control of the game. The Braves made their first five triples of the game – two by freshman Connor Hickman and one each by Roberts, Ville Tahvanainen and Jayson Kent – as Bradley grabbed the early 22-16 advantage.

The Braves didn't slow down from there and a 10-0 run to finish the half, highlighted by a driving dunk from Leons on the final possession, gave BU a double-digits lead at the break, 37-22. Bradley shot 52.0 percent in the opening 20 minutes of action with a 6-of-9 performance from 3-point range.

Bradley picked up in the second half where it left off in the first, scoring on its first eight possession of the period in building a 19-point lead, 51-32. Valparaiso would pull as close as 15 points, 57-42, only for a 9-1 run to give BU a 23-point edge, 66-43, and end any hopes of a comeback.

Overall, the Braves shot 49.1 percent in the 15-point victory with a 7-of-19 day from beyond the arc. The Braves also held the Beacons to 43.1 percent shooting and 4-of-19 from 3-point range.

Bradley looks to extend its winning streak when it hosts Indiana State on Sunday afternoon. Tipoff at Carver Arena is set for 1 p.m.
