Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley men's basketball team used a strong inside attack to post a 67-52 victory against Indiana State on Sunday afternoon at Carver Arena. The Braves claimed their fourth-straight victory and are now 12-10 on the season and 6-4 against Missouri Valley Conference foes, while the Sycamores drop to 9-11 overall and 2-6 versus league foes.

Forwards Rienk Mast and Malevy Leons led the Braves to the victory, each posting a double-double. Mast tallied his fourth 20-point game in the past seven contests and his seventh double-double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Leons added his second double-double of his junior campaign with 15 points and 10 boards to go with three steals and three blocks.

Junior Terry Roberts also scored in double figures with 12 points to go with a game-high four assists.

Bradley never trailed in the winning effort as Jayson Kent converted a layup on the opening possession before Mast and Leons added baskets for a 6-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest. Indiana State would cut its deficit to one and BU would lead by just three points, 26-23, with over four minutes remaining in the period only for the Braves to finish the half strong. Bradley scored the final eight points of the period – the final four by Mast – to head into the locker room with a double-digit advantage, 34-23.

The Braves did not ease up in the second stanza and never let the Sycamores within single digits. Bradley pushed its advantage to 16 early in the period, 42-26, and led by as many as 19 points before finishing off the 15-point victory, 67-52.

Bradley made 41.0 percent of its field goals in the winning effort. BU also finished with a 45-29 advantage on the glass, holding a 38-24 edge in the paint and a 10-0 advantage in second-chance points. The Sycamores, meanwhile, were held to just 34.0 percent shooting with a 5-of-24 mark from 3-point range.

The Braves take their four-game winning streak on the road when they play at Northern Iowa on Wednesday night. Game time in Cedar Falls is set for 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Both of Leons' double-doubles this season were against Indiana State … Mast has four 20-plus games in the last seven contests after one in his first 43 career games … The sophomore is also averaging 18.4 points over the last eight games after tallying 7.8 in the season's first 14 contests … Bradley has forced its opponent to shoot under its season average in field goal percentage in all 10 Valley games this season … The home team has won the last eight games in the series between the Braves and Sycamores.
