Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley men's basketball dropped a 78-71 overtime contest at Loyola on Saturday afternoon. The Braves are now 7-9 on the season and 1-3 in Missouri Valley Conference action, while the Ramblers improve to 11-2 and 2-0 versus league foes.

Sophomore Rienk Mast led Bradley with a season-best 20 points to go with seven rebounds and three blocks. The junior connected on 9-of-18 field goals in the game to surpass his previous high from the year by seven points. Classmate Jayson Kent also scored in double figures with 13 points on the day.

A strong finish to the first half helped the Braves grab the momentum in the contest. The Braves trailed by as many as eight points in the opening stanza but an 18-5 run put the visitors in front by four heading into the intermission, 33-29.

Bradley carried over its momentum into the second period to build a double-digit lead. The Braves outscored the Ramblers, 17-5, during the first six-plus minutes of the half to grab a 50-34 lead. Loyola, however, made its push and pulled to within three, 54-51, with over eight minutes remaining after a 17-4 stretch of its own.

The Braves steadied the ship and maintained their lead to the final minutes before Loyola made one final surge. Trailing by six, 64-58, with under three minutes left, Loyola used an 8-0 run during its next three possessions to move in front by two with under 60 seconds left. Mast responded by converting a layup with 37 ticks left for the tie game before the Braves forced a stop on the other end to send the game into overtime.

The teams continued to battle in the extra session with neither school leading by more than two points the first four minutes before a triple by the hosts put Loyola in front by three, 72-69. The Ramblers then made all six of their free throws to secure the 78-71 victory.

Bradley shot 43.1 percent on the day with a 7-of-26 mark from 3-point range, while Loyola made 45.6 percent of its field goals and 5-of-23 from 3-point range.

The Braves are back in action on Wednesday night, hosting Evansville at Carver Arena at 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Mast's previous season high was 13 points and his 20 points on Saturday mark the second time in his BU career he has scored at least 20 points in a game (tallied 24 versus Southern Illinois at the 2021 MVC Tournament) … Kent is averaging 10.4 points the last eight games after averaging 5.4 in the season's first eight … Bradley's four Valley games have been decided by a total of 16 points (average of 4.0 per game) … Senior Ja'Shon Henry missed his fifth-straight game with a head injury.
