NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Bradley's bottom of the order combined to go 9-for-17 with five runs and 10 RBI, highlighted by a 3-for-5 effort with three RBI from sophomore Jordy van der Werf, as the Braves roughed up Akron 14-5 Sunday afternoon at the Bruin Classic.
 
Scoring a season-best 14 runs, Bradley (12-10 overall) collected a season-best 17 hits in the victory. Van der Werf hit a double and home run against the Zips, while freshman Katie Pederson (2-for-4) and senior Keeler van Breusegen (2-for-5) each had three RBI of their own to highlight the day for the Braves.   
 
Bradley got off to a strong start, hitting four homers in the first two innings.  Freshman Abbott Badgley got the scoring started with a two-run homer in the top of the first, belting her team-leading fourth dinger of the year.
 
In the top of the second, Pederson led off the frame with a solo homer and later in the inning van der Werf and freshman Addie Welsh had back-to-back home runs to give the Braves a 5-0 advantage.
 
Akron (2-14 overall) collected five hits in the bottom of the third, cutting the Bradley lead to 5-4 with a four-run inning.  The Zips loaded the bases with three straight singles to start the third.  Bradley got the first two outs of the inning at the plate on a pair of fielder's choices before a Katelyn Reynolds single drove in the first Akron run of the contest.  Laurel DeVoe drove in two more runs with a single and Reynolds later scored when Tiffany Stevens reached on a fielder's choice.
 
Jaiden Bryant led off the Akron half of the fourth with a solo homer to knot the score at 5-5.
 
The Braves regained control of the contest with three runs in the top of the fifth.  A walk and single put two on for van Breusegen, who ripped a two-out RBI single through the left side.  Van der Werf provided the big hit of the frame with a two-run double to center that put Bradley back in front 8-5. 
 
The top of the sixth saw the Braves tack on three more insurance runs.  Singles by Grace French and Badgley opened the inning, which included a RBI single from Samantha Smith.  Pederson drove in her second run of the day with a sacrifice fly and van Breusegen drove home Smith from third with a groundout as the Braves pushed the advantage to 11-5. 
 
Bradley loaded the bases to start the top of the seventh on a pair of hit batters and a walk.  Pederson drove in another run with a RBI single to center and van Breusegen followed with a RBI single of her own.  An Akron error that would have ended the inning allowed the final run of the inning to come as the Braves pushed the lead to 14-5. 
 
Badgley earned the victory for the Braves out of the bullpen, scattering four hits over four scoreless innings as she improved to 5-2 on the season. 
 
Bradley closes out action at the Bruin Classic later this afternoon with a 5 p.m. contest against tournament-host Belmont.
