Keaton Rice Named to Buster Posey Watch List

Senior Keaton Rice of the Bradley baseball player is among the nation's top catchers as he was recognized on the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award Watch List, announced by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.

Rice is one of 76 catchers to earn the recognition on the list and the only representative from the Missouri Valley Conference.

A two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference honoree, Rice has appeared in 146 career games with the Red & White – accumulating 117 hits with a .253 average, 71 RBI and 79 runs scored, while hitting eight home runs and 31 doubles. The senior ranks fourth in school history with 107 career walks – posting a .404 career on-base percentage – while placing third in the BU record book by throwing out 53 runners during his tenure.

In 10 games this season, Rice is hitting .250 with nine RBI and eight runs scored. The backstop currently leads the Valley by throwing out 37.5 percent of base stealers, while also ranking second among primary backstops with his nine RBI.

The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists on May 19. Ballots will be sent to the national voting committee at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists, announced June 7. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced on June 29.

Rice and the Braves are back in action on Tuesday with a contest against Fairfield. The neutral-site game in Winter Haven, Florida is set for a noon CT first pitch.
