James "Pop" Weathers (Baton Rouge, La.) is headed to Bradley as the highly-regarded guard signed with the Braves men's basketball program on the first day of the spring signing period Wednesday.

"Pop has consistently put up strong numbers in one of the most competitive leagues and regions at the junior college level," said Bradley head coach Brian Wardle. "We really wanted to add a player that had a great assist-to-turnover ratio and who could get to the free-throw line and Pop does both of those things very well. He is a physical downhill guard that fits really well with the roster we have returning and within our system."

Named a Top 75 junior college player during the 2021-22 season by JucoRecruiting.com, Weathers was the only student-athlete in the country at the NJCAA Division I level to average 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals this year at State College of Florida.

Overall, the 6-0 guard from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, finished the season ranked in the top 50 nationally in scoring (18.2), assists (4.9) and steals (2.1), while adding 6.0 rebounds per game and shooting 44.5 percent from the field. A first-team All-FCSAA selection in his second year with the Manatees, Weathers appeared in 49 career games at State College of Florida – totaling 917 points, 272 assists, 245 assists and 112 steals.

Weathers is Bradley's first commit for the 2022-23 season. He joins a program that returns nine letterwinners and three starters from a team that finished the 2021-22 campaign with a 17-14 overall record and an 11-7 mark in Missouri Valley Conference action – tied for its most wins in Valley play in the last 21 seasons.
