Nick King Named Valley Pitcher of the Week

After helping the Bradley baseball team to a series win against No. 16 Dallas Baptist over the weekend, senior Nick King collected Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, announced by the league on Monday.

King played a key role in Friday's 5-3 victory against the nationally-ranked Patriots. Entering the game in the sixth inning with two men on and nobody out, King successfully got out of the jam and left a pair of runners in scoring position thanks to two strikeouts. Overall, the senior pitched four scoreless innings as Bradley turned a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 victory – earning King's second win of the season. King finished the game with five strikeouts (including two in the ninth) and just two hits allowed in the four innings of work.

During his senior campaign, King owns a 2-3 record with a 4.53 earned run average and 38 strikeouts in 43.2 innings of work. Additionally, his .221 batting average against currently ranks second in the Valley. King is also 2-0 in his last three appearances with a 1.64 earned run average – allowing just five hits in 11.0 innings of work.

King and the Braves are back in action tomorrow afternoon with a 4 p.m. first pitch at Iowa.
