Evansville Rallies Past Braves in the Ninth

Evansville, Ind. – Evansville scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to rally for a 6-5 victory over the Bradley baseball team on Friday night. The Braves are now 13-22 on the season and 5-5 in Missouri Valley Conference action, while the Purple Aces improve to 22-18 and 7-3 versus league foes.
 
Junior Connor O'Brien led the Braves on the night, going 3-for-4 with one home run and one double. Senior Keaton Rice also added a pair of hits and one home run for BU.
 
It was Rice's homer that gave the Braves the early lead in the game. After O'Brien reached base for the first time with a single, Rice connected on his fourth home run of the 2022 campaign for an early 2-0 advantage. Evansville pulled one back in the third but the Braves then stretched their lead to 3-1 when Jack Lincoln drove in Jackson Chatterton in the fourth after a leadoff triple.
 
The home team, however, would answer with the next three runs to take its first lead of the day. An RBI single and fielder's choice tied the game in the fourth inning before another RBI single in the fifth gave Evansville a 4-3 edge.
 
Bradley would respond immediately, though. Lincoln drove in his second run of the game with a one-out single in the sixth to square the game at four before O'Brien launched his seventh home run of the season in the seventh to give BU the 5-4 lead.
 
The BU advantage would hold until the final frame. Bradley was one out away from the victory three times but the Aces would hit a two-out single with the bases loaded to earn the 6-5 win.
 
Game two in the three-game series is set for tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
